Films, Photoshoots, Digital Effects, Performing Arts and Internships

It’s been a busy Winter semester.
We have a large number of films in various stages of production (including a zombie pic shooting this weekend near Phoenix Park), daily photo-shoots in the studio (images below), regular performing arts rehearsals and performances, mind-boggling digital effects in development (created in 3D Max and AfterEffects), MA-level research on Photography and Film practice being researched and presented.

HND/HNC students have attended interviews at UK Universities for entry Sept 2013. Several have already secured their first-choice course places.

As if that’s not enough, many of our students have secured part-time internship positions in various media companies in Dublin. They are gaining valuable real-world experience to augment their NMC education. We even have a ‘man in the Oireachtas!’

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, industry feedback on our previous graduates is excellent.

2012 Round Up

Our MA programmes launched this year and the students had a busy week delivering over 9 hours of presentations for review/feedback.

The Christmas Student Showcase took place on 20th Dec in the College. It was a great day of live performing arts, films, music videos, photography, and journalism presentations. BTEC HND Journalism students Ross and Manoela presented a radio documentary they worked on at the Q102 studios under the supervision of David Harrington.
Our Photography gallery has been updated recently and we will publish more work in the New Year.

In the meantime, hope you are having a fantastic Christmas break and all the best for the New Year.

2012 / 13 Academic Year

Dr. Paul St. George of LMU visited NMC on Friday 28th Sept to meet our MA Photography, MA Digital Film & Animation and MA (by Project) students.

Paul discussed the Research Methodologies modules and presented samples of LMU graduates ‘major projects.’

Our HND and HNC students have got off to a flying start with many assignments, projects, films, photo shoots, theatre productions, digital effects already under way. Students from different courses are already interacting to co-produce creative works.

BTEC HND courses – Progression Routes

Our BTEC HND courses are an excellent entry point for full-time employment.

Employers appreciate the level of work undertaken by HND graduates to produce professional portfolios and to achieve Distinction grades. In our experience employers regularly choose BTEC HND over traditional degree graduates due to a greater level of employable skills and the ability to integrate seamlessly into the workforce.

Our 2yr HND courses can also be followed up with a 1yr Hons Degree. This is a highly flexible student-centred route to third-level success.

End-of-Year Results

Our 2012 graduates have achieved a high number of Distinction and Merit grades in both BTEC HND and FETAC courses.

Many graduates have already secured their first-choice third-level places (including 1yr BSc Hons) at Colleges in Ireland and abroad including DCU, Colaiste Dhulaigh and Ballyfermot College.

We are currently preparing our new BTEC Higher National Certificate programmes to begin in Sept.

Dreaming the Quiet Man

NMC tutor Sé Merry Doyle’s documentary film ‘Dreaming the Quiet Man’ is enjoying rave reviews in the local and international press.

The film features interviews with Hollywood greats including ‘The Quiet Man’s’ leading lady Maureen O’Hara, film directors Peter Bogdanovich, Martin Scorsese and film actor Gabriel Byrne.

NMC / Bradford College Diptych Photo Test

*** UPDATE ***
We had a video conference today with Bradford College project participants to discuss the dyptych collaboration.

Bradford / NMC Collaboration - Video conference

HND Photography students Ivana Patarcic and Guilherme Novaes have successfully completed a test Diptych shoot for our latest cooperative project with Bradford College.

Ivana and Guilherme chose to collaborate on the theme ‘Open Spaces’. Working together ‘live’, they shot their respective images ‘at the same instant’ in Ireland and Austria.

In accordance with the diptych project guidelines the photographers stayed in constant communication (in this instance by mobile phone) during the shoots to discuss their locations and potential images. On agreement, they shot the two photographs at exactly the same time.
