This certificate is intended to give students an overview of photographic techniques. Students will be given the opportunity to learn key theoretical content and experiment with traditional and digital visual production techniques.

The programme is suitable for candidates who wish to work within the Photographic sector. The course will also act as a foundation year for relevant third-level programmes.
The course requires full-time attendance for a period of one year. All necessary equipment is provided by the college - darkroom, chemicals, medium format cameras, large format cameras, computer workstations, software, scanning equipment and ink jet printing. Candidates are required to secure and undertake a Work Placement during the year as part of the Work Experience module.
Students must have access to both film and digital 35mm SLR cameras. College staff are available to advise on suitable purchases.
To gain maximum benefit from the course each student will be required to purchase film, photographic paper and inkjet paper in some quantity throughout the year. The necessary chemicals and inks for processing and developing are provided by the College.
