Certificate in Film Production
leads to a FETAC (NCVA) Level 5 award in TV & Film Production

1 year (full-time)

This certificate is intended to give students a comprehensive overview of digital film production practice and theory. Students will be given opportunities to experiment with new visual ideas and concepts.
The programme is suitable for candidates who wish to work within the film/video and new media production sectors. The course will also act as a foundation year for relevant third-level programmes.

The course requires full-time attendance for a period of one year.
All necessary equipment is provided by the college - including workstations, cameras, sound and lighting equipment. Candidates are required to secure and undertake a work placement during the year as part of the Work Experience module.

Aims and Objectives
Candidates will study the following FETAC modules

  • Media Analysis
  • Film Production
  • Communications
  • Editing for TV and Video
  • Safety and Health at Work
  • Personal Effectiveness in the Workplace
  • Business Administration
  • Work Experience

All students will participate in the production of several short films. Students will be placed in groups by the College to work on film projects.

Academic Progression Routes:
Participants may progress from this programme to:

  • Third-Level Hons Degree programmes
  • A wide range of industry positions

An interest in the subject is essential. Suitable candidates will be called for interview.
