Course Title: MA in Photography

Duration: 1 Year full-time

Course Overview:
The overall aim of the programme is to give graduates from visual arts degrees (or equivalent professional experience) the opportunity to develop and expand their own practice through the making of photographic work. The course encourages students to locate their work within the growing range and changing genres of photographic practice and to extend the emerging visual grammars of those genres.

Photography and Digital Practice
Photography and Traditional Practice
Major Project Development
Photography and the Staged Narrative
Photography: Narrative, Sequence and Language
Major Project and Professional Context

Academic Progression Routes:
Suitable graduates will be encouraged to apply for practice based Doctorates thus contributing to the development of an emerging and exciting research culture within the London Metropolitan University Sir John Cass Dept of Art, Media and Design.

Students Portfolios:
Students should submit photography to international festivals, forums and competitions. They will also be encouraged to submit work to galleries and industry professionals such as image libraries, agencies, advertisers and designers.

Employment Prospects:

Graduates from the course will gain employment in various sectors of the arts or industry and students are expected to develop a portfolio that targets a specified market for their work. Graduates may work as photographic artists, teachers and advisors or in a range of commercial jobs in advertising, journalism, image libraries, editorial work, private commissions or many photographic specialisms.

Applicants would normally be expected to possess an undergraduate degree in a practice based visual arts subject such as fine art, photography, film and video, applied art or design. Applicants who can demonstrate that they have gained the equivalent level of proficiency in a visual arts medium through professional experience will also be considered.
